Ties were broken by comparing the number of programs, then enrollment figures. The number of online programs was given the most significant weight (40%); each remaining metric was given equal weight (20% each).
Minnesota State University Mankato is a public research university located in Mankato, Minnesota on a 303-acre campus approximately 85 miles southwest of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Established in 1868 as the Mankato Normal School, the institution began with just 27 students. In 1921 the school became the Mankato State Teachers College and began granting four-year degrees six years later in 1927. One of the largest public universities in the country in terms of enrollment, ASU is classified by Carnegie as a research university with the “highest research activity” and has been named the most innovative university in America, above Stanford and MIT.
